I'm very late to this but I'll chime in anyway. I love gags and always want to be gagged in session during more intense corporal. I find it helps to have something rubber to bite down on and my Domme appreciates keeping the noise down
My pet peeve is gags that are ineffective (you can speak around them) or that they can by rolled out of the mouth. Hence I'm not a huge fan of ball gags as I've found it is difficult to get them secure. I've found the best are rubber or stuffed leather penis shaped gags that are secured either by roller buckle straps or that snap onto a very tight hood. They need to go into the mouth far enough that they are nearly, but not quite, triggering your gag reflex. They also need to be large enough and stiff enough that you can't bend them or push them aside with your tongue.
Inflatable ones work especially well and often have a breathing tube to protect your airway that can also be used with a funnel for force feeding liquids.
We have one from Top to Bottom Leather where the gag is far enough back in your mouth that when the liquid starts to flow your only choice is to start to gulp or to choke. Works really well if you a bound spreadeagled on your back and the liquid can't run out of your mouth.
