I didn't know but it wasn't surprising. It is interesting that the Japanese Americans accepted and was willing to serve in a segregated section of the military. Good for them for serving with honor and hard work, to the point of becoming the most decorated unit. That is the way to overcome adversity, not the nonsense we see today.
