By fact checking accounts, this is paraphrasing and not a direct quote. However, it was a message that he was very outspoken on.

"There will come a time when the rich own all of the media and it will be impossible for the public to make an informed opinion."

This is coming from 1949. He certainly called that right. Even if there was regulation on the media, it wouldn't help. The Democrats are a part of it. The Republicans would be too, given the opportunity. It is a shame when the public, those of us who care to do it anyway, have to dig for the truth.

I remember when the Roosevelt dimes were starting to outnumber the Mercury dimes in circulation. My mom said "every time is see the new dime, I see the face of the great American destroyer." At the time, I thought her opinion was pretty extreme. Extreme or not, she lived through it and she was right.
