I've never been really familiar with the term "service top" over the years, but decided to look it up a couple of days ago when it was mentioned in something I was reading. The definition(s) I read were fascinating and this one is the most recent of the ones I saw and is typical: https://www.kinkly.com/definition/service-top/

In my time in the scene I've done sessions, not lifestyle, but as a regular with a few Mistresses, they knew what I liked and what my limits were. And, more importantly, I knew what THEIR limits were. I'm all about role play and I usually outline the scene and the activities I like with someone new and let the Mistress take it from there. I'm certainly not someone who "tops from the bottom," who from what I have heard from dominas over the years and read, are one of those who wants specific dialog, costuming, etc., etc. For me it's ad lib, and the fun is seeing where are certain scene goes and how it ends up, because that's how I learned about and began to crave certain activities I never experienced before.

Looking back on my sessions over the years I've seen some "service tops" over the years. Mostly they were "escorts with a whip," who indicated they were into kink, were good at it, but also offered vanilla services during play if requested. The real professional Mistresses never (or hardly ever) did anything in my experience that was illegal.

Am I misinterpreting the definition? Any views on this subject?

That was an interesting article. I've never heard the term service top before. To an extent, it is has been my role while doing private sessions at foot parties. The submissive is paying for the session. He should get what he wants from the experience. As long as I'm into the vibe and feeling good about the direction he wants to go, I set out to make it happen for him. I'm still the one in charge but am mindful of the blue print. Service Top? He he. I'm getting a shirt printed up with that title for the next time I'm on dungeon monitor duty at a play party.

This is all very true, to an extent...at least, from my experience. When I was actively doing sessions, I eventually changed my screening to simple open ended questions about previous experiences (Good and bad,) fantasies, hard limits, curiosities and how the sub came to feel in a session. Having a blue print into his mind. I liked to bring a sub to the point where they wanted to be submissive instead of receiving a service. Usually, it worked. But, yes, at the end of the day, a prodom is providing a service...just one that she has chosen to engage in. I found that most men need the dom to be truly enjoying themselves and in control. So, it is a fine line but with enough information it can be done.

As for Service Tops, there was a male dom who did shows at a local fetish club and would come to my parties. He brought his girlfriend with him, who was a switch but loved to sub. To see them play was a real treat. He knew her very well. By the the end of their session/show...she was puddy in his hands. I learned a lot watching them play.
