At the maxfisch site, I often posted a "Question of the Day" (QotD) from justfactsdaily.com
Those posts never generated many replies as the facts presented were pretty well substantiated and not contested.
However, they do provide thoughts about issues that would otherwise never even be thought about.

Here's my first on this site: "Question of the Day" from Just Facts Daily
Quote
Rape Resistance

Are women who use weapons to defend themselves against attempted rape less likely to be raped or otherwise injured than those who don't use weapons?
1. Yes
2. No

Correct Answer [Highlight line below for answer]
1. Yes
Correct Answer Rate 89%

Contrary to the claims of certain lawmakers, a broad range of data indicate that women who use weapons to defend themselves against rape attempts are much less likely to be raped or otherwise injured than those who don't. For example, a 2008 paper in the journal Crime & Delinquency found that resisting rape with "an object, knife, or gun reduced the odds" of being raped by 91%. Likewise, a 2014 paper in the journal Violence Against Women that examined 733 rapes and 1,278 non-rape sexual assaults found that none of the 26 women who resisted these attacks with a weapon were raped or injured after she used the weapon. A 2008 paper in the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice states, "The empirical data clearly have shown that forceful resistance strategies do increase avoidance of rape without increasing the risk of injury by strangers and known perpetrators."

This is a great topic. My first instinct was to choose yes. Then, I had to wonder about a woman being over powered by a man if she was hesitant or uncomfortable with the weapon. Hesitating to be as aggressive as an attacker could be detrimental. There is a great book called "The Gift of Fear." It was written by a security specialist who has worked for governments, large corporations, and public figures. He has run a protection company service with numerous employees for years. He discusses the importance of listening to your gut and not hesitating in a bad situation. I wonder if some horrible tragedies would have taken a different turn if the victim could have been as animalistic as the attacker. For example, the author tells a story of a young mother who was faced with a man car jacking with her young children in the backseat. She gouged both of his eyes out with her thumbs. She didn't even remember having done it. Of course, it is better for someone to have a weapon they are comfortable using and responsible in the way they carry and keep it.

I started taking my daughters to the shooting range when they were in elementary school. As young adult women, they are confident and responsible gun owners. Both of them have their concealed carry permit. Pops sleeps better at night knowing they are safe.

If she never used the weapon for what ever the reason, she's still no worse off than if she didn't have a weapon.

I should have done the same. As it is, my daughters developed an irrational fear of guns. Actual experience replaces fear with respect and a sense of responsibility.

This is a no brainer. Being armed would have saved a lot of women from being raped or worse. If the Central Park 5 victim had been armed it could have been a different story. There would also be no question about who the perps were.

Now that I am moving from a state with strict gun laws to one that is not, I'm seriously considering buying a gun and getting my concealed carry permit. The odds of being attacked are low but if it happens, you will wish you had that gun and the training that goes with it.

You may be safer because you will now have the ability to defend yourself.
However, you are probably safer even before you acquire a firearm.
You will be in a state where a potential attacker would be deterred from trying because of a higher likelihood of you being armed.
