There is a label hanging on Trump voters of being dumb, red neck people who live in the country. My girl and I moved from a burb of Chicago to a rural area of Kentucky several months ago. We both work in busy medical settings and get to know a lot of local people, some times not seeing them at their best. Between that, our local community and neighboring farmers, I've yet to meet an uneducated, gun happy Bible thumper. Sure, there is the little church ladies and the farmer who lives two spreads away that may have never been to college but knows everything and more about crops and livestock. He's always happy to help whenever I ask for advise or a hand fixing something around the barn. Even the church ladies are kind to us big city lesbians. My girl and I are surrounded by easy going, intelligent people who are a lot more polite than what we are used to. We pass the occasional monster truck with confederate flags flying but they don't cut us off or flip us off. That is better than we got in Chicago.

Bottom line, I see a lot of Trump signs but I don't see a lot of idiots. Where are these back wood freaks that the media has harped on? Where are the white robes and torches?

It doesn't take long to pick up the local speak. There are few local restaurants but what is here is pretty good. It is typical southern food, biscuits with gravy, fried chicken, bbq ribs, corn bread and desserts to die for. It is a once in a while treat for me and my girl because of the decadence. The farmer's markets with fresh produce and homemade organic products have been great. Thanks for asking. We are getting the hang of country life.

Count on them being there. They are probably watching your house at night, hoping you have a black friend over. Don't let the nice faces fool you.

-Said with tongue in cheek. Everyone wants lower taxes and the government off their backs, wherever they are.

It's good to hear that you are settling in. People in the south tend to be much friendly than in the north. It is the same with people in the country verses the city. There are always exceptions. All good and bad, I love living in rural areas. As for the stereotype they've stuck on Trump voters, it is nuts. There will be wackos on both sides of any issue. If it was all weighed out, somehow, there would probably be much less on the side of those voting for Trump this year.

I'm pleased (but not surprised) that you have had a warm reception and experience after your move.
The left has been successful in demonizing those with different philosophies and few have the opportunity you now enjoy to observe and experience the positive attributes that are ignored and dismissed by liberals.

Thank you, Chuck. I'm glad you were right about this. As time goes on, we should get a good feel on how the child of a same sex couple would be accepted. Getting out there and becoming a familiar faces around town has been a lot of fun.
