Has anyone been keeping up on this? It became official as of yesterday. 47 thousand port workers from Maine to Texas are on strike. The top port workers make $39.00 an hour. They want a $5.00 an hour raise, every year, over the next 6 years. They want the company to triple the contribution to their retirement funds over the next 6 years. On top of that, they are demanding assurance their jobs will not be replaced by AI. The strike will impact the entire country. What they are demanding sounds excessive to me. The company made them a nice counter offer and they turned it down. Biden has consistently come in on the side of labor in such disputes. This strike and all they are holding out for sounds more like a hostage situation. If they receive the 10% annual raise increase and the tripled contribution to their retirement, the consumer will end up bearing the burden. If you aren't pleased with the prices we are paying now, imagine how it will be with the impact of something like this. I'd be interested to hear others thoughts on the subject.

I have been following this. This is very bad. Unions have destroyed this country.

Re: The company offer

Yeah they offered a 50% pay increase over 6 years but that wasnt good enough for these greedy slob workers..(already making $39 an hour)

Now we will all be paying $20 for a loaf of bread and shelves will be empty again....This is all part of their master plan..

Btw,

If they are able to use these millions of ILLEGALS to cheat this ignorant bitch into office then we are all dead..

Biden takes the side of unions because he wants their votes. This one will backfire on him but it may be too close to election time for consumers to feel the hurt this will put on middle class. I

The raise that wasn't good enough for them would have taken their annual income from 81k to 143k in 6 years. That's almost an 80% increase! All of the ass kissing Harris doing to get union votes is sickening.

These politicians have created ALL of this madness in this world....They created inflation and they created every single war....

I dont know when/if people are ever going to wake up...Its almost like the people just wanna get fucked in the ass....

I will say that Harris was partially correct about one thing in her entire disgusting time on this planet....She was correct about the grocery stores "price gauging".....I have said for a long time now they these grocery stores have been taking advantage of the situation for a long time now.....

But thats the only thing she might be right about...

I say this because I do the shopping too...

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/10/just-longshore-union-president-who-pledged-cripple-united/

This Union Boss just said he is "going to cripple the country"....

He is also a Genovese Crime family associate....(Probably an actual made member of the mob)

And nobody does anything about this....

Like I said before Unions are scum and their leaders are bigger scumbags....

This disgusting PIG should be found in the back of a trunk too. Just like his mob member friend and fellow RICO conspirator who was found in a trunk...(just before he was about to testify against him)

I just watched the clip. What an arrogant thug. Most people would be grateful for a 10% increase over the course of 6 or 8 weeks. I've heard both time frames reported. Either way. It's a fantastic deal for them. Remember when Reagan replaced the airline controllers?

By now, our government should have woken up and realized that we are in a vulnerable position by leaning so heavily on imports from other countries. Add to that thugs like the union boss threatening the livelihood of Americans.

The DOJ recently charged this thug with RICO..

Everything was dropped because the main witness (a made member of the Genovese Crime family) who was suppossed to testify for the government was found in the back of a car trunk...

Why the FUCK isnt the media talking about this?

Did you see how this POS lives?

I am telling you there is not one good thing or organization or company anywhere to be found in our country.

Everything is corrupt to the core.

Our government/politicians are evil and corrupt. The media, sports, school systems, corporations ALL corrupt..

Even the churches are filled with corrupt liars who cover up for each other.. You have priests who molest kids and the flock protects them..

You have these freako TV ministers making tens of millions a year stealing money from the sick and old...

THEN you have the Catholic church as the largest landlord on earth. Go figure.

We are living in bad times, unfortunatly most people are too busy playing with their cells phones to realize any of this..

Re: Reagan and the air controllers...They were federal employees so it was easy for Reagan to fire them....This is a different situation because these people are not federal employees..

The union boss thinks his men are the only ones who went to work during covid? What if healthcare workers began demanding a 50% increase in pay and threatening to cripple the country if it wasn't met? I'm an RN and didn't miss a day during covid, even working on my days off. I was on salary so there was no overtime pay. I was far from the only healthcare worker who made sacrifices and didn't demand anything in return.

He's making the port workers out to be victims when they were collecting paychecks. They were the lucky ones. A lot of people, myself included, wanted to work instead of having their pay interrupted. He's bragging about putting financial hurt on the middle class by depriving them of the opportunity to work. If whoever is running the government had any integrity, they'd pull the Taft Hartely treaty. Anyone who goes along with the port strike are the scum of the earth.

There are behaving like entitled union workers. But, how can you blame them? Most of us would do the same in the situation. With nepotism running high in union jobs this type of every man for his self behavior was probably ingrained in them. I hope they get their demands before crushing the economy.

I don't blame anyone for getting as much compensation as they can negotiate. When they brag about putting the squeeze on their fellow citizens they lose me.

I was going to add Hospitals to my corrupt list too....

With their $12 for an aspirin and $12,000 a night stays....

I know a couple of nurses now living in CT who were former nurses in NYC/Brooklyn area during Covid...Remember all the bodies in freezer trucks? They were there for that shit....Many nurses were fired for not taking the Covid Heart Stopping Death Shots...

I'm not an expert on the situation. But what comes to my mind is the shipping companies jacked their profit margins up to obscene levels. They probably got a shit ton of Covid money from the government on top of it. The workers who made that possible want to be compensated fairly considering the top brass is raking in big bucks. I can't say I agree with the strike or the workers. Yet, they have a point.

Think about what you are saying. The shipping companies are gouging the working class and the union workers want a part of it.

The price gouging needs to stop. I don't think that government price control is the answer. Certainly, they can put limits on profit margins instead of determining the price of groceries.

You raise a valid point. But what are the long shoremen to do about it? They can't control what the companies are charging. They are working stiffs, like most of us, trying to get by. None of it matters for the time being anyway. After DeSantis announced he'd bring in the National Guard to make sure freight was moving, even with them helping unload, the union agreed to suspend the strike until January. Sounds like someone in the White House asked the the union boss to stand down until the election is over. How this turns out will be telling.

Every week my girl and I are closer to being able to live off the grid. Who knows what will come next.
