Trump is aggressively addressing so many problems at once and getting results.
I don't know much about tariffs and the latest Trump tariff maneuver unveiled an aspect that I never thought of.

I wondered why Canada and Mexico got 25% tariffs while China got only 10%.
It appears Trump flexed his muscle to get Canada and Mexico to secure their borders. (It appears to be working).

Another consequence of the tariffs affects China the most.
Apparently there was a loophole that allowed billions of dollars of import duties to be bypassed.
These billions will now go into US coffers and the flow of illegal drugs will have lost an easy path to the US.
This article contains most of what I know about the issue:
The Secret Tariff Code is Buried in ‘Section 2, Item (h)’ of the Executive Order
FTA:
Quote
It was reported last year that the U.S. was on track to receive a billion packages through the de minimis loophole that aren’t taxed and don’t have customs slips saying what they are. Making matters worse, illegal items are slipping through the cracks, including, knockoffs, unsafe items and even chemicals used to make fentanyl. The worst abuser that exploits this de minimis loophole is, by far, China.
[...snip...]
Put it all together and President Trump is executing an Emergency Act executive order, plus the imposition of a tariff review, and simultaneous interception of de minimis packages previously unchecked as the enforcement mechanism. All executed by the External Revenue Service.
Some of the comments to the article are informative and insightful as well.

Well we fought the Revolutionary War because of tariffs (which are taxes) that the British imposed on the colonies....

I am sure everyone has heard of the Stamp Act and Tea Act...(Ie: Boston tea Party)

I think China is the biggest problem because we get most of our stuff from China.....

True enough.
I think the Canadian and Mexican tariffs were used simply to extort increased border security.

That was a great article. Isn't grand to see President Trump put America first? If it becomes a trade war before there is absolute resolution, it won't be any worse than letting it goes as it has been.

Yes. That is his best trait.

It might even be better.
Here's another article from the The Conservative Treehouse site that addresses the probable effect of the tariffs:
With Tariffs in Place, Watch the Canadian Dollar and Mexican Peso
FTA:
Quote
This price result is exactly the opposite of what the economic experts and Wall Street pundits predicted back in 2017 and 2018 when they were pushing the rapid price increase narrative.

Because all the export dependent economies were reacting with such urgency to retain their access to the U.S. market, aggregate import prices were actually lower than they were when the Trump tariffs began...
